2 Choosing the Right Dumpster & Weight Limits
Use the guide below to estimate which size fits your project. Heavy debris like concrete, dirt, or shingles adds up quickly — choose accordingly to avoid overage fees.
Overage fees are $125 per ton.
| Size | Avg. Capacity | Typical Weight Limit | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 Yard | ~3–4 pickup truckloads | 1 ton (1,000 lbs) | Small remodels, heavy debris (dirt/concrete) |
| 16 Yard | ~4–5 pickup truckloads | 2 tons (2,000 lbs) | Kitchen remodels, basement cleanouts |
| 20 Yard | ~6 pickup truckloads | 3 tons (3,000 lbs) | Roofing shingles, whole-house cleanouts |
3 Tips for Loading Your Dumpster
Maximize your space and stay safe with these loading strategies:
- Load Large Items First:Place bulky items like furniture or appliances at the bottom to prevent air pockets.
- Distribute Weight Evenly:Keep the load balanced to ensure safe transport and to prevent the truck from tipping during pickup.
- Break Down Debris:Smash boxes and take apart furniture to utilize every inch of the bin.
- Watch the Fill Line:Never fill past the top rim. If it's over the top, we can't safely haul it under Illinois Department of Transportation rules.
4 "Ready for Pickup" Checklist
Before you call us for a haul-away, please ensure the following:
- Level Load:Debris is not sticking out or piled above the rim.
- Clear Path:No cars, equipment, or debris are blocking the dumpster.
- Weight Check:The bin does not contain excessive heavy fill (dirt/concrete) beyond the agreed limit.
- Gate / Access:If the bin is behind a fence or gate, ensure it is unlocked for our driver.
5 Prohibited Items & Proper Disposal
To comply with Illinois EPA (IEPA) regulations, certain items cannot be placed in our dumpsters:
Prohibited items will be charged $50 or the actual expense to dump.
- Hazardous Waste:Includes wet paint, motor oil, pesticides, and pool chemicals.
- Flammables:Propane tanks (even empty), gasoline, and explosives.
